Description
This 1994 Mario Gallegatti large 3/4 carved back is a magnificent example of contemporary Italian doublebass luthiery. The very even fine grain spruce top is flawless. The moderately flame figured maple is very even in character. The matching moderately flame figured maple neck has been fit with a replacement set of Rubner hatpeg tuning machines. The glorious reddish Italian varnish has a luminous and very even color. The bridge and tuning machines replacements were done by luthier Scott Marshall. The dimensions are: Top length 44 1/8″, Upper bout width 19 1/2″, Middle bout width 14 1/4″, Lower bout width 26 5/8″, Rib depth at tail 8 1/4″, Rib depth at upper bout corner 8 1/4″, Rib depth at neck 7 1/8″, Bridge height 6 1/2″, 40 14″. Strung with Flexocore Deluxe string, this bass has and even and colorful voice, supported by a strong , clear bass on the bottom string. This bass would be a strong candidate for a C extension. A marvelous orchestral instrument.
