Description
This new Shen Left-handed SB 80 (2019-5-56) suffered a broken fingerboard in shipment, so I had Tristan Cole-Falek install a German-source African ebony fingerboard and then perform a complete setup. The bass performs wonderfully and has the solid tone response all of the way down to a low E note that Shen basses are celebrated for. The Maple neck is fitted with smooth turning individual tuning machines, the nut and tailpiece saddle are ebony, the tailpiece is ebonized, the bridge is a German replacement with added adjusters, The endpin is a 10 mm steel rod, the finish is dark red lacquer, the strings are D’Addario Helicore Hybrids.
The dimensions are:
Top length 42 3/4″, Upper bout width 20″, Middle bout width 14 1/4″, Lower bout width 26 1/8″, Rib depth at tail 8 1/8″, Rib depth at upper bout corner 7 3/4″, Rib depth at neck joint 6 1/4″, String length 41 1/4″. This is a nice student or gigging bas for the left-handed player. With Cover.
