This example of the ever popular Shen SB 200 willow 3/4 flatback (2021-1-64) is an especially fine arco bass, with the complex sounding stiff spruce top with lots of hazelfichte (bear claw figure). The complex voice in the top is complimented with the typically darker tone that the X-braced willow flatback provides. The maple neck is fit with mid-grade single unit brass tuning machines. The nut, fingerboard, replacement Hill style tailpiece, and tailpiece saddle are ebony. The New Harmony endpin is a solid graphite pin with ball type endpin tip. The replacement bridge is a Despiau fit with gold anodized adjusters. The light brown oil varnish showcases the bold hazelfichte (bear claw figure) of the top. The current stringing is with Spirocore orchestra gauge, though a variety of arco oriented strings will work well with this bass. The dimensions are: Top length 42 3/4″, Upper bout width 19 7/8″, Middle bout width 14 1/4″, Lower bout width 25 1/4″, Rib depth at tail 8″, Rib depth at upper bout corner 7 3/4″, Rib depth at neck 6 1/4″, String length 41 3/4″. This bass will be a fine instrument for the serious orchestral student or community orchestra performer. With upgrade cover.
