Description
A broad-toned example of the model that Shen affectionately calls the “Steve Swan Model”, the Shen SB 200 Rogeri willow flatback (2021-1-49) is the size between the standard 3/4 model and the Gemunder 7/8 model. The spruce top is especially nice on this example, with narrow even grain at the center. The Willow back and sides are of medium density, with resonant tap tones in the back plate. The mid-grade brass single unit tuning machines are standard for the 200 model series. The nut, fingerboard, tailpiece saddle, and replacement tailpiece are all solid ebony. The New Harmony adjustable endpin features the solid core graphite endpin. The Aubert replacement bridge has had adjusters installed. The current set of strings is Pirastro Flexocore Deluxe, currently the most popular orchestral string that we sell. The Dimensions are: Top length 44″, Upper bout width 20 7/8″, Middle bout width 14 1/2″, Lower bout width 26 3/8″, Rib depth at tail 8 5/8″, Rib depth at upper bout crease 8″, Rib depth at neck 6 5/8″, String length 41 3/4″. This bass features a strong voice with a powerful presence on the low string. It makes a fine orchestral instrument and would also work well for more traditional jazz settings when strung with Spirocore orchestral strings or with the new Pirastro Perpetual strings. With cover.
