This new Shen SB 200 maple 5/8 carved back (2021-5-66) has a large and solid voice when played in a jazz setting. The spruce top has even grain and a solid tap tone. The maple back and sides offer colorful tap tones, particularly in the mid-range. The maple neck has been fit with single unit brass tuning machines. The nut, fingerboard, and tailpiece saddle are made from ebony. The Hill style tailpiece is stained black. The adjustable endpin is the 10 mm steel rod type. The Despiau replacement bridge has been fit with aluminum adjusters. The amber-orange oil varnish finish accentuates the grain figure of the maple and spruce woods. The strings are Spirocore orchestra gauge. Dimensions are: Top length 41 1/4″, Upper bout width 18 3/4″, Middle bout width 14″, Lower bout width 25 1/4″, Rib depth at tail 8″, Rib depth at upper bout corner 7 3/8″, Rib depth at neck joint 6 1/4″, String length 39 3/4″. This bass lends itself well to jazz pizz playing, but it also responds well to arco orchestral play as well. With cover.
