This new Shen SB 150 hybrid 3/4 (2020-2-119) is a versatile example that lives equally well in the orchestra or in the jazz band. Consistently one of the most popular student models for the shop, this bass has a rich, well developed voice. The Spruce top features fairly tight and even grain, with a smooth and colorful tap tone. The laminated maple back and sides feature a nice red-brown oil varnish finish. The maple neck has been fit with Single unit gold plated tuning machines that turn smoothly. The nut, fingerboard and tailpiece saddle are of ebony. The tailpiece is ebonized hardwood. The German replacement bridge has been fit with adjusters. The endpin is of the 10 mm steel rod type. This bass has been strung with D’Addario Helicore hybrid strings.
