New Paesold 592-B 3/4

This new Paesold (Wilfer-made) 592-B 3/4 carved back bass is a spectacular orchestral bass in this price range. The aged European spruce top has especially well-defined grain, giving the voice a musical complexity.  The plain figure aged European maple back, ribs and neck is straight grained and of medium density, adding a warmth to the voice. The German halfplate tuning machines feature a classic engraving that adds a touch of elegance to the pegbox. The aged African ebony fingerboard is moderately dense and stiff, giving a solidity to the feel of the neck. The Despiau bridge has been fit with smooth turning adjusters. The tailpiece is made from medium density rosewood. The tailpiece saddle has been replaced with a slightly larger and taller aged ebony example that gives the string tension a more relaxed feel. The adjustable endpin is the deluxe version from ULSA with a brass collar and thumbscrew. The lightly applied varnish is medium brown with a hint of red. The dimensions of the bass are: Top length 43 1/2″, Upper bout width 19″, Middle bout width 14″, Lower bout width 25 1/8″, Rib depth at tail 8″, Rib depth at upper bout corner 7 3/4″, Rib depth at neck 7″, String length 41 3/8″. The current stringing with Pirastro Flexocore gives the voice a rich and full quality for orchestral work. This exceptional bass feels and sounds very much in balance that will only improve with age and experience. With cover.
