Description
This new Wilfer 3/4 carved back bass was as a work sample for about a year at the Wilfer building shop. It is a very full and mature sounding bass for its size and string length. The spruce top has very fine and even grain structure. The maple ribs and back plate are of medium density and produce ringing resonant tap tones. The maple neck has been fit with single unit Rubner tuning machines that turn precisely. The adjustable 10 mm steel rod endpin has a brass collar. The replacement “two trees” Despiau bridge has been fit with adjusters. The dark reddish brown oil varnish shows of the beauty of the well-chosen woods. The bass is strung with Pirastro Evah Pirazzi orchestra gauge, which produces a powerful voice with a strong fundamental. The dimensions are: Top length 42 5/8″, Upper bout width 19 1/2″, Middle bout width 13 3/4″, Lower bout width 25 1/2″, Rib depth at tail 8″, Rib depth at upper bout corner 7 3/4″, Rib depth at neck joint 7″, String length 40 12″. This bass is easy to play, but produces a projective and powerful voice, played in pizz or orchestral settings. With cover.
