This used ca. 2015 unlabeled 3/4 carved back bass features very nice woods throughout and fine craftsmanship for a student instrument. The spruce top features very even grain structure and reminds me of some of the nice spruce used by Xuechang Sun. The figured maple back, ribs, and neck are also very high quality for a student bass. The tuning machines are a gold plated Rubber halfplate set. The nut, fingerboard, tailpiece, and tailpiece saddle are all made from ebony. The bridge is from a Despiau blank that has been fit with adjusters. The adjustable endpin is a 10 mm steel rod. The varnish is a rich orange color. The new string set is D’Addario Helicore hybrid, the same as what the consigning owner used to play orchestral music and some jazz. The one repair is a 10″ crack on the E-side lower bout of the top, near the tail. The dimensions are: Top length 42 1/2″, Upper bout width 19 1/2″, Middle bout width 14 1/2″, Lower bout 26 1/8″, Rib depth at tail 8 1/4″, Rib depth at upper bout corner 7 1/8″, Rib depth at neck joint 6 1/2″, String length 41 1/8″. This bass has already developed a voice from regular play, but has more room to grow in volume and depth of voice. A very nice student level bass.
