Description

This ca. 1910 Roth 7/8 carved back bass had a very active dance band life from the mid-1930s through the early 1950s. Since then it stayed with the family of that player until about 6 years ago, when it was acquired by the shop. The bass underwent an extensive restoration process that included replacement of all of the internal cleats, a neck reset, and a new aged African ebony fingerboard. The voice is very strong and rich. The custom Jason Brown C extension brings the bass to full orchestral function. Dimensions are: Top length 44 3/4″ (113.7 cm), Upper bout width 19 3/4″ (50.2 cm), Middle bout width 15 3/8″ (39.1 cm), Lower bout width 27 1/8″ (68.9 cm), Length of back including button 45 3/4″ (116.2 cm), Rib depth at tail 8 3/8″ (21.3 cm), Rib depth at upper bout crease 8 1/4″ (21.0 cm), Rib depth t neck 5 7/8″ (14.9 cm), String length 41 7/8″ (106.4 cm). The voice is very rich and lively in response. The previous owner for the last 3-4 years used this bass extensively in performance and on recordings. A very special bass. With cover.
