This new Shen SB 180 deluxe hybrid (2020-3-61) is an especially fine example of this popular model. The spruce top is of fine, even grain width and functions well for orchestral use nor jazz play. The laminated maple back and sides show light flame figuring. The maple neck has a medium density and a resonant tap tone.. The mid-grade brass tuning machines turn easily and precisely. The nut, fingerboard, and tailpiece saddle are ebony, the tailpiece itself being ebonized hardwood. The German maple replacement bridge has had adjusters installed and they turn freely and smoothly. The 10 mm steel rod endpin has a hard rubber tip. The amber-orange oil varnish finish is lovely and shows the attractive grain figure features. The strings are a new set of D’Addario Zyex medium gauge for versatility in orchestral and jazz play.
Top length 42 3/4″, Upper bout width 20″, Middle bout width 14 1/2″, Lower bout width 26 14″, Rib depth at tail 8 1/8″, Rib depth at upper bout crease 7 3/4″, Rib depth at neck joint 6 1/8″, String length 41 1/2″. A fine student instrument with especially nice top wood. With cover.
