This 2014 Shen SB 150 hybrid 3/4 (2014-10-68) Has been used regularly by a student for orchestral play in middle school and high school. It has developed a rich voice that is versatile for jazz or orchestral playing. The medium-wide grain spruce top has a rich tap tone and well-developed voice. The laminated maple back and sides are finished with a light brown oil varnish. The maple neck has been fit with single unit tuning machines. The nut, fingerboard, and tailpiece saddle are ebony. The tailpiece is ebonized white wood. The adjustable endpin is the 10 mm steel rod type. The replacement bridge has been fit with adjusters that turn freely. The oil varnish finish shows a few signs of handling wear. The bass is currently strung with D’Addario Zyex strings.
