This well maintained 2007 Shen SB 200 willow 7/8 Gemunder flatback (2007-3-90) has developed a large and lively voice from regular play. The presence of the low end is particularly impressive for a contemporary student level bass. The spruce top has even grain and a richly colorful tap tone. The beautiful willow back and sides also have colorful tap tones. The maple neck has been fit with mid-grade brass tuning machines. The nut, fingerboard, tailpiece, and tailpiece saddle are ebony. The replacement Aubert bridge is fit with Shen-sourced adjusters with wooden wheel. The endpin is the 10 mm steel rod type. The lightly applied brown oil varnish is in fine shape. The bass is currently strung with Pirastro Flexocore Deluxe orchestral string. Dimensions are: Top length 44 1/2″, Upper bout width 20 7/8″, Middle bout width 15″, Lower bout width 27 1/8″, Rib depth at tail is 8 7/8″, Rib depth at upper bout corner 8″, Rib depth at neck 6 5/8″, String length 42 1/8″. These basses have a consistently large and full orchestral voice and make a deeply rich jazz voice for traditional playing styles. This instrument is a standout. With cover.
