This 7/8 size 2004 violin corner model 11 carved back was sold by this shop in 2005 and used for 11 years by a professional jazz player. Traded in for one of the Swan Workshop instruments, we decided to give the top a light regraduation and a chalk fit neck reset to provide a 7″ bridge height and a more solid neck mortise fit. The results have given this bass a huge voice in orchestral settings and would also make a large old school jazz bass. Medium grain width aged European spruce top, Plain figure German maple back, sides, and neck, Gold engraved halfplate Rubner tuning machines, Ebony fittings. including a new 4/4 fingerboard, German aluminum rod endpin, German maple bridge with added adjusters, Orange oil varnish varnish.
Top length 44 1/2″ (113 cm), Upper bout width 21″ (53.3 cm), Middle bout width 15″ (38.1 cm), Lower bout width 27 1/4″ (69.2 cm), Depth at tail 9″ (22.9 cm), Depth at upper bout corner 8 3/4″ (22.2 cm), Depth at neck 7 1/2″ (19.1 cm), String length 42 5/8″ (108.2 cm).
This instrument is an extraordinarily bold-voiced orchestral bass, both in solo and section functions. The bass is very much in balance with itself and the 7/8 string length does not feel stiff at all. A very nice conservatory level instrument. An exceptionally deep voiced modern instrument, this bass has recently been fitted with a Jason Brown 4 capo C extension (not shown). This bass has a profound section voice. With cover.
