Description
This performance-enhanced 2004 Calin Wultur carved back Carcassi model is an especially effective orchestral bass. The recently performed performance enhancements include a top regraduation and a neck reset that results in a 7 1/8″ final bridge height. The Carpathian spruce top has nice stiff grain structure that benefitted from a regraduation procedure. The Carpathian maple back and sides have a good dense structure and very musical tap tones. The Carpathian neck has ben fit with Rubner single unit tuning machines. The nut, fingerboard, tailpiece saddle , and tailpiece are all made of African ebony. The bridge is an Aubert Luxe model fit with adjusters. The New Harmony graphite endpin is the solid core type. The varnish shading is very nicely done. The current stringing is with Pirastro Chromesteel strings. The dimensions are: Top length 43 7/8″, Upper bout width 20 7/8″, Middle bout width 16″, Lower bout width 25 5/8″, Bridge height 7 1/8″, Rib depth at tail 8 1/4″, Rib depth at upper bout corner 8″, Rib depth at neck 6 1/2″, String length 42″. This bass was used for many years by an orchestral student, developing the voice to a great extent. Part of the large voice of this Rogeri pattern is the 16″ middle bout width. The neck reset also provided good bow clearance with this wider middle bout. A very nice orchestral performance bass. With cover.
