This exceptionally clean condition 2003 “Testore” 3/4 carved back bass was purchased through Steven Reilly’s shop and hardly used at all! It is a very nice high student grade instrument from one of the best small shops in China. The spruce top is exceptionally nice, with bold grain lines that remind me of Carpathian spruce. The mildly flame figured maple back and sides have a brightly colorful tap tone. The plain figure maple neck is fitted with gold plated Rubner halfplate tuners. The nut, fingerboard, tailpiece, and tailpiece saddle are all made from high quality ebony. The European maple bridge is fitted with standard style aluminum adjusters.10 mm steel rod endpin. Dark brown varnish finish. Strung with Pirastro Flexocore Deluxe strings for orchestral play. Set up by Steven Reilly for fine orchestral performance.
Top length 42 1/8″, Upper bout width 19 1/2″, Middle bout width 14 5/8″, Lower bout width 25 3/4″, Rib depth at tail 8 1/2″, Rib depth at upper bout corner 7 1/4″, Rib depth at neck 6 3/4″, String length 41 1/2″.
This bass, though little used, already has a very colorful orchestral voice in all ranges and will prove to be a fine audition and performance instrument for the serious student. With cover.
