1980s Romanian modified 3/4 flatback



This early 1980s Romanian modified 3/4 flatback bass has received a top regraduation, bass bar remodeling, and reduction in size of the back braces. It remains in a remarkable state of preservation, having been stored in a closet after only about 6 months of use since it was first purchased. The Carpathian spruce top has even grain structure and added wings at the upper and lower bouts. The plain figure Carpathian maple ribs and 4-pice back are of medium density. The Carpathian maple neck has German-made halfplate tuning machines. The nut, fingerboard and tailpiece saddle are made of aged African ebony. The Despiau superior grade bridge has been fit with bridge adjusters. The tailpiece is rosewood, of moderate density. The adjustable endpin has a 3/8″ graphite rod. The reddish lacquer finish remains in very clean condition. Dimensions are: Top length 42″, Upper bout width 20 1/4″, Middle bout width 13 7/8″, Lower bout width 25 1/2″, Rib depth at tail 7 3/4″, Rib depth at upper bout crease 7″, Rib depth at neck joint 6″, String length 40 5/8″.
