This clean Hofner 7/8 model 518 is one of the best sounding examples of this model that I have sold over the years. The model designation corresponds with the Paesold 592 model that has been very popular here for the last 15 years. Made entirely in the southern german Hofner ¬†factory, this instrument uses aged european woods and features a beautiful and lightly applied varnish. Aged european spruce top with bold grain lines, Plain figure aged european maple back, sides, and neck, Nickel plated Rubner halfplate tuning machines, Aged african ebony nut, fingerboard, and tailpiece saddle, Replacement Wittner composite tailpiece from Germany, German aluminum rod endpin with ebony collar, Replacement german bridge with adjusters added as part of a complete setup, Thinly appliced orange varnish finish. DIMENSIONS are: Top length 44 3/8″, Upper bout width 21 1/8″, Middle bout width 15″, Lower bout width 27 1/4″, Depth at neck 7 3/8″, Depth at upper bout corner 8 7/8″, Depth at tail 9″, String length 42 1/8″. The large and complex voice ¬†functions well in jazz and orchestral settings. Currently strung with Flexocore 92 strings for orchestral playing this bass has also worked well with mittel or weich gauge Evah Pirazzi or Spirocore strings in jazz settings. With cover.
