This recently performance enhanced Rumano Solano bass has gotten a new lease on life with a replacement German-sourced African ebony fingerboard, a light top regraduation, a new bridge, and a New Harmony endpin. Sometime in the past the former owner got some very bad advice from a budding young luthier (who has since moved to France) to have the fingerboard planed very thin, which robbed the bass of much of its inherent power as an arco instrument and made the neck profile feel very weird. We have remedied all of that with the replacement fingerboard and given the cedar or redwood top a more lively response with the interior work. The top is made of either cedar or redwood. The back and sides are domestic poplar and the neck is maple. This bass has a very lively character, a rich lyrical voice, and is now fun to play with a more conventional neck profile. Dimensions are: Top length 43 1/8″, Upper bout width 19 1/4″, Middle bout width 13 3/4″, Lower bout width 25 1/4″, Depth at tail 9 1/8″, Depth at upper bout corner 7 1/2″, Depth at neck 7 1/4″, String length 41 1/8″. The the rich bel canto voice is complemented well with the Pirastro Passione strings that develop more of the upper midrange color. A very fine student price range arco instrument from this well known builder. With cover.
