New Xuechang Sun Special 920

This bass is one of the special lot of instruments built with a wider grain, more flexible spruce top. It already has a lot of the depth and richness that we often achieve with the addition of a top regraduation (revoicing) by Allan Droyan. Made without tuners, I supplied a set of the gold halfplate Rubner model. The maple is plain figure with a nice dense ebony fingerboard. I supplied a Gotz aluminum shaft endpin and an african ebony Hill style tailpiece. We used a dense old german maple bridge with adjusters added as part of a comprehensive setup. Dark red oil varnish finish. Dimensions are: Top length 43 1/2″, Upper bout width 20 3/8″, Middle bout width 14″, Lower bout width 26 3/4″, Depth at neck 7 7/8″, Depth at upper bout bend 8 3/8″, Depth at tail 9 1/8″, String length 41 5/8″. This bass has a strong, balanced voice with good volume under fingers or a bow and promises to be an excellent instrument after a short break-in period of play. With cover.
