New Xuechang Sun Custom 520 3/4 (revoiced)

This specific Xuechang Sun custom 520 model was built only by the shop foreman, using specially purchased Bosnian spruce and flame figured maple found only on these once-a-year limited edition instruments. The neck sports Rubner single unit hatpeg tuners custom fit with the E string high and the G string low on the scroll. The nut, fingerboard, Hill style tailpiece, and tailpiece saddle are all made of high quality ebony. The endpin is a 10 mm adjustable rod with a ball end. The bridge is an Aubert De Luxe with adjusters added as part of a comprehensive setup. Allan Droyan regraduated the top to produce the voice of an older, developed instrument. This instrument is finished in a gorgeous brownish red oil. Dimensions are: Top length 42 3/8″, Upper bout width 20 1/8″, Middle bout width 14 7/8″, Lower bout width 26 1/8″, Depth at neck 6 7/8″, Depth at upper bout angle bend 8 1/8″, Depth at tail 9 1/4″, String length 40 5/8″. This bass reflects a trend in modern building, pairing a larger 3/4 size with an easy playing shorter string length for ease in nimbly negotiating tough arco passages used in contemporary orchestral playing. The voice is quite complex and full all over the fingerboard. This bass is the finest example of Sun’s 3/4 size as I have ever heard. With cover.
