This new large 3/4 Swan Workshop bass represents the collaborative efforts of 4 of our allied team of luthiers working together to make this german sourced instrument function like the best of the european made shop instruments of the 1920s. This bass features a medium grain width european spruce top, lain figure maple back sides, and neck, gold single unit Rubner tuning machines, ebony fittings, Aubert bridge with added adjusters, adjustable steel rod ULSA endpin, and a custom oil varnish finish by luthier Hannah Mayne. ┬áBefore the oil varnish finishing, the most senior member of our allied luthiers team set the neck at a steeper angle to permit a 1920s bridge height and regraduated the top to ca. 1900 era shop thicknesses to provide a richly dark and complex toned voice. The final setup was performed by Jeff Sahs and Josh Tharp. Dimensions are: Top length 43 1/2″, Upper bout width 19 7/8″, Middle bout width 14 3/4″, Lower bout width 26 3/4″, Depth at tail 8 3/4″, Depth at upper bout corner 8 3/4″, Depth at neck 7 3/8″, String length 42 1/8″. This customized build has produced a bass that responds with a large and dark voice that is much like an early 20th century european instrument that has matured with regular play. It has an old musical soul in a young body. With cover.
