This new Shen SB 300 Maple Busetto (2018-11-40) is such a special example that it was the featured instrument at the recent Anaheim NAMM show. With setup refinements and upgrading of several parts, this bass has now realized its full potential as a conservatory level performance instrument. The lovely spruce top has fine grain throughout and bolder winter grain lines toward the center. The Maple back, sides, and neck have received Pollman-style chip carving decoration of the exterior linings and in the pegbox area. The tuners are the mid-grade single unit brass model. The nut, fingerboard, and tailpiece saddle are ebony. The replacement German maple bridge has added adjusters. The replacement ebony Hill style tailpiece comes from Germany. The replacement New Harmony endpin has a 10 mm solid graphite pin. The red-brown oil varnish finish is very beautiful in natural light. Currently strung with Pirastro Evah Pirazzi orchestra gauge strings, this instrument is particularly useful in an orchestral setting. DIMENSIONS are: Top length 42 1/8″, Upper bout width 18 1/2″, Middle bout width 14 1/8″, Lower bout width 26″, Depth at tail 8 1/2″, Depth at upper bout bend 8 1/4″, Depth at neck 7 1/8″, String length 41″. This bass plays particularly well in a solo-section mixed function and is easier for a smaller person to play. With cover.
