This new Shen SB 200 willow Rogeri flatback (2020-2-72) is an excellent example of this popular model and functions quite well in both jazz and orchestral settings. The spruce top is of medium grain width and has a rich, full character. The willow back and sides are medium dense in character, yielding a complex and musical tap tone. The maple neck also has a medium-dense quality with close grain width. The mid-grade brass single unit tuning machines turn freely and evenly. The nut, fingerboard, and tailpiece saddle are ebony. The tailpiece is medium density, dark colored rosewood. The tailpiece wire is the high tension fabric type. The replacement Aubert bridge is high quality and demonstrated a very musical tap tone in blank form. The bridge adjusters are the wooden wheel type, offering quick adjustments on the job, if needed. The replacement endpin is from New Harmony, a solid graphite model. The oil varnish finish is a light amber-brown . The strings are Spirocore Orchestra gauge.
