This new Paesold 591 3/4 flatback has received a top degradation and a neck reset that increases the bridge height to 6 3/4″. The more flexible and responsive top along with the better leverage with a taller bridge give this instrument the kind of robust response that we typically see in a 1930s german bass. Maple back and sides, Extra stiff spruce top with bold grain lines, slightly flame figured Maple neck, Large gear brass single unit tuners, Ebony nut, fingerboard, tailpiece, and tailpiece saddle, 10 mm steel rod endpin, Aubert Luxe bridge with adjusters added as part of a comprehensive setup, Dark brown oil varnish finish. Dimensions are: Top length 42 5/8″, ¬†Upper bout width 20″, Middle bout width 14 1/8″, Lower bout width 25 3/8″ Depth at neck 6 7/8″, Depth at upper bout corner 8 1/4″, Depth at tail 9″, String length 41 1/4″. While we usually perform just a top regraduation on this model, the neck reset was made necessary by a heel and button injury during shipping. While the neck was out, it was set to our preferred 6 3/4″ final bridge height for a bass of this size and type. The voice is splendidly full and rich, with a pleasingly loose feel. This bass performs quite well in both arco and pizz settings. With cover.
