This new Maple Leaf 150 model 3/4 carved back is the flagship model of this fine student bass company. I appreciate the good neck angles, comfortable necks, and fine tone of these basses for high school and college level orchestral playing. This particular bass has top grain that is a little wider, which has yielded a a rich, warm voice under a bow. The medium density maple back produces a rich, warm tap tone and the grain is beautifully complimented by the amber-orange oil varnish finish. This bass has a very nice Aubert maple bridge chosen for the complex tap tone and fitted with New Harmony gold anodized adjusters. The neck features a slender French style shape and has individual gold-plated large gear tuning machines mounted. I like the neck shape and quality so much that I by unfinished examples for mid-grade neck replacements! The traditional French shape ebony tailpiece is gorgeous and I chose a slightly denser, brighter example to compliment the warm voice of the top. The ULSA German endpin assembly features an ebony collar, brass fittings, and a precisely made 10 mm steel rod endpin. This instrument produces a fine, colorful student orchestral voice and is strung with Pirastro Flexocore Deluxe strings. With cover.
