New Custom Hofner 7/8 carved back

This new Hofner 7/8 carved back bass represents the first of our-inhouse approach to finish and custom neck sets for european made basses. Allan Droyan regraduated the top for excellent response to light tension stringing (gut, Velvet Garbo, etc.) and set the neck for greater bridge height, both common procedures here for improving older european basses. A dark “older looking” red-brown oil varnish was applied. The result is a lightly built, but powerful sounding instrument that might remind some of a well-played ca. 1910 german instrument with contemporary string length. Fine-medium grain european spruce top, Mildly flame figured Maple back and sides, Mildly flame figured neck, Gold Rubner single unit tuners with ebony posts, Aubert De Luxe bridge with wooden adjusters added as part of a comprehensive setup, Ebony nut, fingerboard, German-made Hill style tailpiece, and tailpiece saddle, Gotz aluminum rod endpin, Dark red-brown oil varnish finish, currently strung with Velvet Garbo strings. Dimensions are: Top length 43 1/4″, Upper bout width 20″, Middle bout width 14 3/4″, Lower bout width 27″, String length 42 1/8″. This instrument is an excellent pizza bass with a dark, warm voice that is especially well-suited to older styles of jazz or other popular and folk musics from the pre-1960 gut string era. With cover.
