This new large 3/4 German made instrument represents another in our series of “Workshop” basses that are collaborations between 4 different luthiers in our allied team that put together basses that function like the best european made shop instruments of the 1920s-1930s. This bass features a medium grain width european spruce top, Plain figure european maple back, sides, and neck, Gold single unit Rubner tuners, Ebony fittings, Aubert bridge with adjusters added, and a custom oil varnish finish by Hannah Mayne. The steeper neck angle and modern overstand height allows easy thumb position reach and a larger, more projective voice on the low end. The top was regraduated to ca. 1900 thicknesses in advance of the finish to provide for a rich, dark, and very even voice. DIMENSIONS are: Top length 43 1/2″, Upper bout width 19 7/8″, Middle bout 14 3/4″, Lower bout width 26 3/4″, Depth at tail 8 3/4″, Depth at upper bout corner 8 3/4″, Depth at neck 7 3/8″, String length 42 1/8″. This customized bass responds with a large and dark voice that is much like an early 20th century instrument that has matured with regular play. It has an old soul in a young body. With cover.
