This consignment ca. 1951 German 3/4 carved back bass represents the prewar style of design and building with a lighter approach to top thicknessing and longer string lengths associated with the 1920s and 1930s. Fine to medium grain european spruce top, European maple back and sides with beautiful chevron figure ribbon grain on the back, Mildly flame figured European maple ┬áneck, Replacement custom single unit brass tuners, Ebony nut, Ebony fingerboard with white side dots added, Aubert bridge with adjusters added, Ebonized white wood tail[iece, Ebony tailpiece saddle, Original German endpin, Strung with a nearly new set of Spirocore weich strings. Dimensions are: Top length 43 1/8″, Upper bout width 20″, Middle bout width 14 1/2″, Lower bout width 25 3/8″, Depth at tail 8 1/4″, Depth at upper bout corner 8 1/4″, Depth at neck 7″, String length 42 3/8″. The neck has had a rest about 20 hers ago, which increased to the overstand to modern specifications. The original fingerboard has had the Romberg bevel rounded over a little and side dots were installed. A very nice bass with pre-WWII tone and responsiveness.
