This consignment ca. 1895 Eastern European 7/8 flatback has been used most recently to play early music and in chamber orchestras. The spruce top is 4 pieces with additional wings at the lower bout edges. The very lightly figured maple back and sides are of generous dimensions, giving the feel a strong solidity. The original 3 string configuration was changed with a scroll graft to 4 strings, the flame maple being more strongly figured than the back and sides. The individual brass machines are from Kolstein. Ebony nut, fingerboard, tailpiece extension and tailpiece. Maple bridge with adjusters, German 10 mm steel adjustable endpin. Dimensions are: Top length 43″, Upper bout width 21″, Middle bout width 15 3/4″, Lower bout width 28″, Depth at tail 8 1/4″, Depth at upper bout corner 8 1/8″, Depth at neck 8″, String length 41 7/8″. This bass responds with a beautiful and even tone through all playable ranges. A nice addition to any orchestra or string ensemble. With cover.
