This consignment Shen SB 190 5/8 (2013-12-75) has spent the last 4 years as a performance instrument for countless old-time string band performances and jam sessions. The consigning owner has not only taken very good care of it, but has developed the voice through play into a very mature sounding example. The four piece spruce top has narrow grain at the center, medium grain though the F-hole area, and wide grain at the outer edges. The solid willow sides are especially dense and have a bright tap tone. The Maple ply flat back features the traditional ladder type bracing found only on the 190 series in the Shen line. Ebony nut, fingerboard, and tailpiece saddle. Ebonized tailpiece. French replacement bridge with added adjusters. 10 mm steel rod endpin. Red-brown oil varnish finish. Strung with D”Addario helicore hybrid strings. DIMENSIONS are: Top length 41 1/4″, Upper bout width 19 3/4″, Middle bout width 13 3/4″, Lower bout width 25 1/4″, Depth tat tail 8 1/2″, Depth at upper bout corner 7 3/4″, Depth at neck 6 3/4″, String length 39 5/8″. This bass has a voice significantly larger than what one might expect from a 5/8 size instrument. With cover.
