This trade-in 2008 Hofner Model 518 7/8 is one of the nicest sounding examples that we have sold brand new and it remains in very clean condition. Used extensively by the original owner, now retired from bass playing, in jazz settings strung with Spirocore weich strings. This large-voiced instrument also performs quite well in an orchestral setting and is currently strung with Flexocore strings. I regularly performed with new examples of this model for several years and liked the pre-WWII style build and response. Nice european spruce top with bold grain lines, Plain figure european maple back, sides, and neck, Half-plate Rubner tuning machines, Ebony nut, fingerboard, and tailpiece saddle, Wittner composite tailpiece, German maple bridge with added adjusters, Goetz deluxe 10 mm steel rod endpin, Orange spirit varnish. Top length 44 3/8″, Upper bout width 21 1/8″, Middle bout width 15″, Lower bout width 27 1/4″, Depth at neck 7 3/8″, Depth at upper bout corner 8 7/8″, Depth at tail 9″, String length 42 1/8″. This responsive instrument provides a large and lively voice in both jazz and orchestral settings. One of my favorite models from this fine maker. With cover.
