This consignment 2006 Andrew Pitts large 5/8 flatback comes to us from the second owner, the first being noted performer and teacher Jim Kerwin. Andrew Pitts is an american bass maker who now makes his home with his new family in Prague, Czechoslovakia. Bosnian spruce and maples, Lovely brass Czech single unit tuning machine with cello peg decorations instead of the more common “hat peg”, Medium neck profile, Ebony fittings, Despiau bridge with adjusters, Leather side bumpers on the treble side to protect the edgeless plates, Czech endpin with carbon graphite rod, Orange-red oil varnish. Dimensions are: Top length 41 7/8″, Upper bout width 19″, Middle bout width 12 7/8″, Lower bout width 24 1/8″, Depth at tail 8 1/2″, Depth at upper bout corner 7 1/4″, Depth at neck 6 1/2″, String length 41 1/4″. This bass is currently strung with Evah Pirazzi weich, which allows for a very even and beautiful bel canto resonse to the lightest touch of the bow. An excellent melody or chamber orchestra bass.
