This consignment 1971 Rauner 3/4 carved back bass was utterly transformed by the jazz performance enhancements of Michael Olivola several years ago, including top regraduation, neck reset, and a new taller bridge. The European Spruce top has fine grain at the center and medium grain at the edges. The top was regraduated and bass bar reshaped for top jazz function by Michael Olivola. The plain figured European Maple back, sides, and neck are all in fine shape. The neck was reset by Michael Olivola to permit a 7.25″ bridge height and 35 mm overstand. The replacement Rubber halfplate tuning machines feature nice engraved floral patterns on the plates. The nut, Fingerboard, tailpiece, and tailpiece saddle are all African ebony. The endpin is the Deluxe Ulsa with brass collar and 10 mm steel rod. The Despiau bridge has had black anodized adjusters added, Spirit varnish finish, Strung with Spirocore Orchestra gauge strings. DIMENSIONS are: Top length 42 3/8″, Upper bout width 19 1/4″, Middle bout width 14 1/2″, Lower bout width 26 3/8″, Depth at tail 8 3/4″, Depth at upper bout corner 8 3/4″, Depth at neck 7 1/4″, String length 42 1/4″. This bass has a large, deep presence as a jazz instrument, an especial fine example of Michael Olivola’s performance enhancement work.
