The choice woods include an exceptionally nice fine grain spruce top, Medium flame figure maple back, sides, and neck, Brass halfplate tuners, ebony nut, replacement Macassar ebony fingerboard, older german style ebony tailpiece, ebony tailpiece saddle, older 10 mm steel rod endpin, older bridge with no adjusters, Original oil varnish finish on all surfaces except for the top, which got a darker oil vanish finish in the 1970s to conceal some repairs, Currently strung with an older broken in set of Spirocore mittel strings. Dimensions are: Top length 43 5/8″, Upper bout width 19 3/4″, Middle bout 14 5/8″, Lower bout width 25 5/8″, Eb string length 42 7/8″. This bass would be an excellent candidate for having a new fingerboard installed with a false nut and a D configuration, which would yield a more modern string length nearer to 41″. The responsive top yields a very lush, dark pizz jazz voice with a large presence. ¬†Played arco, this bass has a solid and rich voice down to the lowest notes. A very nice performance bass from the classic classic Czech Juzek period. With cover.
